Attending the 6th SADC Groundwater Management Institute (GMI) Conference, held at Avani in Maseru, Lesotho, was an incredibly enriching experience. I had the honor of presenting my undergraduate thesis, titled "Assessment of Groundwater Storage Depletion Using GRACE and Land Surface Models in Mzimba District, Northern Malawi." The presentation went exceptionally well, and it was deeply fulfilling to share my research with experts, stakeholders, and peers from across the SADC region. Engaging with an audience genuinely interested in groundwater management and receiving positive feedback on my work was both motivating and inspiring.
The conference provided a unique platform to learn from leading researchers and practitioners in groundwater management. The diverse range of presentations and discussions broadened my understanding of regional groundwater challenges, innovative solutions, and the critical role of data and modeling in sustainable water resource management. It was particularly insightful to see how different countries within the SADC region are working collaboratively to address groundwater issues.
Beyond the academic aspects, my experience in Maseru was truly memorable. The vibrant culture, warm hospitality, and breathtaking landscapes of Lesotho added a special touch to the trip. I am especially grateful to BASEFlow Malawi for funding my airfare to attend this important conference. Their support made it possible for me to showcase my work on such a prestigious platform.
